Prepare your accommodation's Korean address and a payment method before booking a taxi. Use an app such as k.ride or board at an official taxi stand, and keep a record of the ride when you get out.
How do you use k.ride and Uber Taxi?
If you are choosing a taxi-booking app for the first time, you can consider k.ride. Kakao Mobility describes English, Japanese and Chinese interfaces, multilingual destination search and chat, Google, Apple and email sign-up, and payment with cards issued overseas. If you already have an Uber account, you can check Uber Taxi availability at your current location in the app.
In k.ride, sign up and prepare your payment method, then set your pickup point and destination. Check vehicle options and the estimated fare, request a ride, then confirm the registration number of the assigned vehicle. Button names may differ by language and app version. Read the conditions for scheduled and immediate rides separately. Do not assume the estimate will equal the amount you actually pay.
Even after signing up, check booking and payment conditions separately
When choosing an app, first check whether you can sign up with your current phone number, register an overseas card and pay in the vehicle. Language and payment support may vary by app, country and card. After installing or signing up, check once more that your payment method is ready before requesting a ride.
Match the map pin to where you are actually standing
At an airport or station, look for the official taxi stand. If you booked through an app, check that the map pin matches where you are standing, and compare the arriving vehicle's registration number with the app screen. Even at the same address, being across a main road or at an underground entrance can make it difficult for the driver to find you.
If you have many suitcases or several people in your party, check passenger capacity and luggage space first. Large vehicles or reservation services may calculate fares differently from regular taxis.
Show your destination's Korean address and branch name
Showing the Korean name, road-name address and map screen together can make your destination clearer than giving only the hotel's English name. For chain hotels or restaurants with the same name, confirm the branch too. Check the destination together before setting off, and remember that the fare may vary with traffic or extra charges.
Keep your payment record and belongings when you get out
After paying, keep the receipt or ride record in the app. Check that you have your phone, passport, wallet and suitcases before getting out. If you leave something behind, gather the ride time, pickup and drop-off locations and vehicle details, then ask the operator or an official tourist information service for help.
