Seoul · Visit a palace and walk the lanes

Jongno, Bukchon and Seochon Travel

Choose either Gyeongbokgung or Changdeokgung, then add lanes and exhibitions in Seochon or Bukchon. Leave time to eat and rest instead of rushing between palaces.

How about exploring in this order?

Feel free to change the order to suit where you want to go and how long you want to stay. Before visiting, check each place's reservation and operating information.

  1. 01

    Gyeongbokgung or Changdeokgung

Choose one palace you want to see, then look up visit dates and special admission conditions.

Find the location on a map ↗
  2. 02

    Seochon or Bukchon

Continue to a neighborhood in a convenient direction from the palace. In Bukchon, respect residents' daily lives and follow guidance on visiting areas and times.

  3. 03

    Insadong and a meal nearby

You can finish by seeing crafts or exhibitions and having a meal. You do not have to walk through every area in one day.

How should you get there?

Choose Gyeongbokgung Station or Anguk Station to suit your first stop. Hanok lanes have narrow paths and slopes. If you have a lot of luggage, it is better to leave it at accommodation that can store it before walking.

Where should you eat?

If dining alone, first ask which dishes one person can order. The label traditional food does not tell you its spiciness, broth or ingredients, so check separately for ingredients you cannot eat.

If staying in this neighborhood

Consider accommodation in this area if you will visit the palaces and city-center exhibitions several times. If you want to stay in a hanok, read the bedding, bathroom, stairs and noise conditions for the specific room you book.

When you want to change plans

If it rains, shorten your lane walk and spend time at a nearby exhibition. Before going, check that exhibition's opening days and whether reservations are required.
