Half a Day Exploring Gwangmyeong Cave and Resting Outside

Focus on the exhibitions inside Gwangmyeong Cave, then rest near the exit. Plan a half day including the journey back to Gwangmyeong Station, without continuing to another city after the cave.

This suits people interested in industrial heritage and light displays who want to focus on one place. Although it may look like an indoor visit, it involves walking inside a cave, so consider first whether stairs, slopes and enclosed spaces are comfortable for you.

Getting to the First Stop

Search the whole route from Seoul to Gwangmyeong Cave, then compare going via KTX Gwangmyeong Station with other public transport routes. Gwangmyeong Station and Gwangmyeongsageori Station on Line 7 are different stations. Arrange a separate bus or taxi journey from your chosen station to the cave entrance.

Half a Day

  1. Gwangmyeong Cave Ticketing and Information Area

Distinguish the cave visitor area from separate exhibitions. Check whether your desired exhibition is currently operating and choose only the tickets you need.

Set the actual visitor entrance to Gwangmyeong Cave as your destination on the map. First check the walking relationship between parking areas and the entrance on the official map.

  2. Inside Gwangmyeong Cave

Follow the on-site visitor route to explore industrial heritage and light displays. When stopping for photos in dark or sloping areas, leave room for people behind you to pass.

Follow the digital map and on-site guidance. If stairs or narrow sections are difficult, ask staff which areas you can use instead of pushing yourself to complete the whole route.

  3. A Break Outside the Cave

Rest outside after your visit and check your return transport. Add another paid exhibition only if your energy and its entry conditions suit you.

Travel from the exit to your chosen meal or rest spot, then find the boarding point for your return. This itinerary does not cover every facility around the cave.

Meals and Breaks

Use the cave's official food and amenities information to find places available on your visit date. Do not assume you can eat inside the cave; allow time to sit and rest outside before or after your visit.

Rainy Days or Days When Walking Is Difficult

The main visit is inside the cave, but getting to the entrance involves outdoor travel. Heavy rain or safety checks may change operations, so check Gwangmyeong Cave's notices. If operations stop, postpone your visit instead of substituting photos of another place.

Preparing for the Journey Back

Look up buses or taxis from outside the cave back to the station you started from. If using KTX, allow for the journey from the bus stop into the station and on to the platform. If returning by metropolitan subway, show the driver your actual transfer destination, such as Gwangmyeongsageori Station.

Booking, Stairs and Weather Checks

  • The whole cave is not guaranteed to be level or barrier-free. Ask about stairs and slopes through official information and staff.
  • Distinguish entry conditions for the visitor area from those for separate activities and exhibitions.
  • Do not confuse the names Gwangmyeong Station and Gwangmyeongsageori Station.
