Getting to the First Stop
Look up transport from Seoul to Ganghwa, then connect the final section into Gyodongdo. You can also compare the official Gyodong City Tour as an alternative if its operations and bookings fit your travel date.
One Day · Garden and Market
Hwagae Garden
Start by choosing the sections you want to see in the themed gardens. Decide separately about walking up to the observatory and riding the monorail after reading their respective operating, ticket and waiting conditions.
Travel from your actual hub, such as Ganghwa Bus Terminal, across Gyodong Bridge to Hwagae Garden's visitor entrance. If local bus services do not fit, arrange a vehicle for the round trip.

After the garden visit, travel to the market by vehicle for a meal or snacks. Explore the narrow lanes while respecting both shops and residents' living spaces.
Connect Hwagae Garden and Daeryong Market using actual local transport, a taxi or a booked vehicle. Do not assume the two places share one ticketed area.
Daeryong Market on Gyodong Map ↗Optional Rest at Gyodong Jebijip or Near the Market
If a tourist information or rest space is open that day and suits you, stop briefly before heading back. Leave some breathing room at the market instead of continually adding new attractions.
Find Gyodong Jebijip within Daeryong Market and use only the areas actually open to the public. Return to your vehicle's pickup point for the journey back.
Meals and Breaks
Leave time to sit down for a meal at the market after the garden. Set mealtimes for your companions so you do not skip meals while continually snacking, and check individual shops' ingredients and opening on site.
Rainy Days or Days When Walking Is Difficult
The focus is on an outdoor garden and market lanes, so leave out the observatory and uphill garden paths in heavy rain or strong wind. Not every market shop is an indoor alternative, so consider changing your travel date in bad weather too.
Preparing for the Journey Back
Arrange the vehicle or bus journey back across Gyodong Bridge to your hub in Ganghwa first. If waiting for the garden monorail or eating at the market takes longer, shorten optional visits to fit your return transport.
Booking, Stairs and Weather Checks
- Check the ID required to enter Gyodongdo and the access controls in force at the time.
- Do not assume everyone can manage the same amount of walking uphill without the monorail just because the observatory is visible.
- Do not keep adding Jeondeungsa on Ganghwa's main island or Seokmodo to the same day after Gyodong.
