Itinerary Beyond Seoul, Departing from Seoul · One Day

A Day in Gangneung Focused on the Jeongdong-Simgok Badabuchae Trail

First check trail admission and arrange transport to the ticket offices at both ends. On a day walking the coastal trail, do not try to fit in central Gangneung and other beaches as well.

Choose this itinerary if you want stairs and coastal walking. Even as a pair, match your walking pace. If alone, check your return vehicle or bus before setting out.

Couples · Solo travelers · Longer walks and slopes · Mainly outdoors

Getting to the First Stop

First look up services departing Seoul or Cheongnyangni Station that stop at Jeongdongjin. If arriving at Gangneung Station, recheck the officially suggested No. 112 bus → Gangdong free parking area → No. 958 bus → Simgok route against services for your date, or arrange a separate vehicle for the round trip.

Day Trip · Enter at Jeongdong or Simgok and Arrange Separate Transport Back from the Other End

  1. Your Selected Badabuchae Trail Ticket Office

Check the day's opening status on the official website before setting out. Decide first which end to enter and leave, then check last admission and safety guidance.

If taking a train that stops at Jeongdongjin, travel separately from Jeongdongjin Station to the ticket office. If using Gangneung Station, you need bus transfers or a vehicle arranged in advance.

  2. Jeongdong-Simgok Badabuchae Trail

Walk according to the open sections and on-site restrictions. If planning a through walk, prepare how to return to the station from the opposite end too. Shorten the plan if on-site guidance changes.

This section is on foot. Do not assume transport automatically connects the exit to the next ticket office or station.

Meals and Breaks

Find somewhere to arrange a meal, toilets and water before entering the coastal trail. Do not assume restaurants or indoor rest places occur at the intervals you want along it.

Rainy Days or Days When Walking Is Difficult

If waves, wind or rain close the trail, cancel the coastal walk instead of looking for another way to walk it. Change the date before departure, or arrange transport back to the station first if you have already arrived.

Preparing for the Journey Back

Settle the journey from the exit to Jeongdongjin or Gangneung Station before booking your train. If buses do not connect, check whether you can actually arrange a taxi or booked vehicle. Change your visit date if you cannot secure one.

Booking, Stairs and Weather Checks

  • Opening status may change because of weather, military operations, facility safety or other reasons.
  • Choose another itinerary if the stairs and walking load do not suit you. This coastal trail is not presented as a level, barrier-free walk.
  • Do not search for the two ticket offices as though they were the same point.
