A Day Choosing Traditional Houses and a Performance at the Korean Folk Village

Explore traditional houses at the Korean Folk Village and choose one performance after a meal. Allow time to walk and rest in the large outdoor grounds instead of filling the day with every activity and amusement facility.

This suits people who want to see hanok and old everyday tools and talk about them together. If some want a performance while others want a closer look at houses, use one performance as the reference point for adjusting how much to see before and after.

Getting to the First Stop

Depending on your accommodation in Seoul, compare buses or taxis to the Korean Folk Village entrance via Sanggal or Suwon Station. The trip does not end at the station, so save both the final journey to the entrance and your return boarding point.

One Day

  1. Traditional Houses in the Folk Village

Check the day's performance schedule at the entrance, then start with nearby houses. Instead of seeing every house, spend longer at the ones whose structure or everyday tools interest you.

Get the official visitor map at the Korean Folk Village entrance and decide which way to go. Finding the performance venue first can save repeated trips along the same paths.

  2. Around Traditional Workshops and a Meal

Watch work in workshops that are open, then rest over a meal. Choose hands-on activities after checking on-site operations, separate fees and registration conditions.

Choose workshops and eating spaces close to where you finish viewing houses. Reduce routes that take you to the far end of an area and back just for a meal.

  3. One Performance Running That Day

See one performance you want, then finish the day. If there is no performance or it is canceled because of weather, leave at a relaxed pace through areas you have already seen.

Go to the place listed on the official performance schedule. Afterward, prioritize the route back to the entrance and your companions' remaining energy for walking over extra facilities.

Meals and Breaks

Rest at a market or food outlet listed by the operator that is close to the area you are actually visiting. Ask about ingredients and spicy seasonings in Korean dishes before ordering, and do not rush your meal because of a performance time.

Rainy Days or Days When Walking Is Difficult

Much of the visit and travel is outdoors, so consider another day in heavy rain or intense heat. If keeping the visit, reduce the area you cover and first check the official information on performances in rain.

Preparing for the Journey Back

Before returning to the entrance, recheck bus and taxi boarding points toward your chosen station. The easiest station for your return may differ from the one used on arrival, so compare complete routes to your Seoul accommodation.

Booking, Stairs and Weather Checks

  • Performances and activities vary by season, weather and operating circumstances.
  • Do not expect visiting traditional houses to offer the same environment as an indoor museum.
  • Check foreign-language explanations, the language used for activities and overseas card acceptance for each program.
