When Departing from Seoul

Choose your transport hub first: Jeju Airport → Seongpanak Visitor Information Center

Travel from your accommodation in Seoul to Gimpo Airport's domestic terminal and look up flights to Jeju Airport. After arriving on Jeju, connect separately to the local sections below.

First plan how to get from your accommodation to the actual departure station or terminal. For trains, check the departure and arrival stations and whether transfers are needed. For buses, choose the exact terminal as well as the destination city. Seoul, Yongsan, Cheongnyangni and Suseo are different stations.

Continue to the Entrance After Arriving Locally

For large mountains, parks and areas, this guide uses the main access point specified in the information. If you choose a different trail, route or beach, your starting point may also change.

    Taxi or Prebooked Vehicle

The representative approach is Seongpanak. If choosing another route, such as Gwaneumsa, Eorimok or Yeongsil, change the starting point and return route first. This is a suggested approach requiring a separately arranged vehicle for your travel date and a return pickup agreed in advance.

Suggested Access Based on Location · Check Directions Before Departure

    On foot

Arriving at the information center does not mean reaching the Baengnokdam summit. Plan within your reserved trail section, seasonal entry and descent times, and weather restrictions.

Map links search for locations by name. They are not directions checked for exact entrance coordinates or actual services on your travel date. Enter your departure point, destination and chosen transport in a map app to check the route again.

Bus alternatives found in official guidance

These public transport options can be compared with the vehicle sections of the basic approach. The items below are alternatives for different departure points, not a route taking every bus in sequence. If your arrival hub from Seoul differs from the bus boarding station, add the journey between them on the map.

Hallasan National Park's notice dated June 5, 2026 describes airport bus 181 traveling via Seongpanak. Prepare an actual service and access to the information center that fit your reserved entry session; do not assume you can start hiking immediately after arriving at the airport.

Hallasan National Park · Local bus 281 + walk

Jeju Bus Terminal or Seogwipo Bus Terminal → Seongpanak bus stop → Seongpanak Visitor Information Center

The same official notice describes bus 281 passing Seongpanak from both Jeju City and Seogwipo City. Decide which direction to return after descending, and avoid confusing the stops on opposite sides.

Even for officially published routes, look up operation, boarding stops and direction again for your travel date. If frequencies do not fit, compare the vehicle approach in the basic guidance.

Prepare for Booking, Access Restrictions and the Final Leg

  • Check summit route reservations and live trail restrictions in the official reservation system for your travel date.
  • A notice dated September 18, 2026 announced reopening of the Gwaneumsa Samgakbong–Baengnokdam section on September 24. Do not describe it as permanently closed based only on an old restriction screen.

For sections using taxis or booked vehicles, discuss round-trip availability, pickup locations and charges such as waiting fees and tolls with the provider before departure. A vehicle is not guaranteed to be immediately available outside railway stations or at remote attractions. If you choose local buses, check the exact stops, direction and return services too.

Plan Your Return to Seoul First

First decide how to return from your last attraction to the transport hubs listed as “Jeju Airport → Seongpanak Visitor Information Center”. If you leave through a different gate, port or trail from the one you entered, check again whether you can use the same vehicle pickup point.

  1. Allow time to reach the actual pickup location after sightseeing, descending from a hike or disembarking.
  2. Make separate arrangements for local buses or booked vehicles and your long-distance return journey. If tickets are sold out, compare other services or an overnight stay.
  3. Check whether subway or bus connections to your accommodation will still be running after you arrive in Seoul.

When your day includes a boat trip, hike or evening visit, leave a buffer before plans that are difficult to change, such as an international flight the next day.
